I founded Washington Bike Law not just to represent injured bicyclists, but to help make our streets safer for everyone.&#8221; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anderton continued, &#8220;But here\u2019s the deal, my office represents people who\u2019ve <strong><em>already<\/em><\/strong> been injured in bike and pedestrian crashes. Mostly what we do is <strong><em>too late<\/em><\/strong>.&#8221; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Tonight, with these first-annual awards, we recognize Seattle people and organizations who work to <strong><em>prevent<\/em><\/strong> crashes and make Seattle\u2019s streets better for people.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The annual Washington Bike Law and SNG awards are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>The People\u2019s Champion Award<\/em><\/strong>, for outstanding safe streets advocacy and achievement; and <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>The Community Enhancer Award<\/em><\/strong>, for leadership in creating vibrant public space and making streets places where communities can thrive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Friends of Hing Hay Park <\/strong>is the 2019 winner of the <strong>Community Enhancer Award <\/strong>for bringing to life perhaps Seattle\u2019s best new public space at\u2026 (wait for it) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.seattle.gov\/parks\/find\/parks\/hing-hay-park\">Hing Hay Park<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jeff Hou spoke about how the park really serves the community and is actually used by it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" <a href=\"https:\/\/www.seattle.gov\/transportation\/projects-and-programs\/programs\/bike-program\/protected-bike-lanes\/pike-pine-mobility-improvements\">Pike\/Pine Protected Bike Lanes<\/a> Community Engagement <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Under their co-leadership, <a href=\"http:\/\/centralseattlegreenways.com\/\">Central Seattle Greenway<\/a>s led the multi-year advocacy effort for protected bike lanes connecting Capitol Hill to downtown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"955\" height=\"680\"
